Into the Metaverse

The metaverse is an exciting and ever-evolving space, with new technologies and platforms emerging constantly. It's a place where people can come together, connect, and create new worlds and experiences. For many, it's not just a hobby or pastime, but a full-time career.

My personal journey began within Second Life back in 2007 when I started my first virtual business building roleplaying-games within the confines of its world, I suppose that makes me a seasoned professional in the metaverse industry with over 15 years of experience under my belt (metaverse really isn’t new!). At the time I was only 13 and the prospect of building a career around these virtual experiences was my dream, however, it wasn’t really recognised as a ‘thing’ back then and while I was making money from it, it wasn’t enough to sustain me after leaving university in 2016.

I look at platforms like Roblox today and see how its enabling young developers to build successful businesses through their work. It’s becoming more and more viable for developers to build the projects of their dreams via more accessible tools and through monetisation, build a sustainable career. Having spent the last 7 years working in mobile development—some of that as a technical lead—I’ve decided to go all-in on the metaverse, dedicating myself full-time to this emerging industry.

With a wealth of knowledge and professional experience, I’m now ready to share my journey and expertise with the world through Noctua. Noctua is my vision of what a metaverse studio should be. Founded in 2020 and starting with Roblox, we’re going to be building games and experiences that push the boundaries of emerging metaverse platforms and providing tutorials, tooling and technical insight to the wider developer community while doing it.

One of the most exciting aspects of the metaverse is the endless possibilities it presents. With new technologies like virtual reality and augmented reality continuing to evolve, the metaverse is poised to become an even more immersive and interactive space in the years to come. For me, being a part of this evolution is what makes the metaverse such an exciting and rewarding space to work in.

So if you're interested in learning more about Roblox development and the metaverse industry as a whole, be sure to keep up with this new blog and follow Noctua over on Twitter. With my years of experience and dedication to the craft, you're sure to find plenty of valuable insights and tips that can help you take your development skills to the next level.
